There are at least three times as many prediabetics in the United States as there are diabetics. The estimates are in the area of 25 million diabetics, and 75 million prediabetics - depending on which statistics you look at and how current they are. The fact is, though, that most prediabetics seem unconcerned, and for many of them, their doctors should be screaming:
"Danger...you body is being damaged when blood sugar levels are over 100 for just two hours. If you don't get your blood sugar back into the 80 mg/dl, the odds are you will become a diabetic within ten years!"
Why is this common place? How can you can have a blood sugar reading of 110 and your doctor not be overly concerned? Doesn't he or she know that elevated blood sugar over 100 for just two hours starts to cause damage to your peripheral nerves, and at over 110, damage occurs to your retinas and starts to damage your Beta Cells? Is it not explained to you that as your Beta Cells begin to die or no longer produce insulin, your body will eventually be unable to control your blood sugar, and medications and potential insulin injections or pumps will be required to maintain normal levels?
How can this be happening when Diabetes is such a devastating disease? How can the fear of losing a limb, going blind, constant pain or numbness in your feet and hands, or being hooked up to a dialysis machine not make you want to take action? These are not scare tactics; these are real life occurrences that happen to someone every few minutes here in the United States. The emotional and financial impact on families that have to care for a loved one ill with Diabetes can be devastating to families.
If you have been to an elementary school lately and talked to the nurse, you will find there are already dozens of children with diabetes.
One in three of our children is expected to become a diabetic. It is our responsibility to put a stop to this! It's all about food choices and making sure blood sugar is balanced. Fasting levels should be below 80, not just 100. You absolutely must get a glucose meter and routinely test your family's blood sugar levels.
There are various drugs available when you become a diabetic, but they all have negative effects on the body and many of them actually increase your risk of heart attack and cause weight gain. The best solution is to take a look at your diet now: begin to reduce carbohydrate and sugar intake, reduce or eliminate all processed foods, eliminate all the sodas and sweetened beverages. You should also begin an exercise program, and as far as possible, reduce stress (which spikes sugar levels).
In addition, there are several natural ingredients that have had some success with glucose control, such as cinnamon, chromium, and fenugreek, among others. The most promising of all the natural products is an ingredient called isohumulone which is made from hops.
If you are starting to have fasting blood sugar levels that are getting into the 90 mg/dl, please take action now. Change your diet, start exercising, reduce stress, make sure you have all your vitamins, minerals, amino acids, essential oils, and hormones in balance. If you need more help, take a natural product such as
Diabetes Defense which contains isohumulone . But get your blood sugar under control! It may save your arm, your eyes, even your life....or the life of someone you love.
